Section 50 of the Council Code of Conduct Bylaw provides for an Informal Complaint and Dispute Resolution Process that encourages Councillors to resolve perceived code of conduct contraventions through alternative means than the formal complaint process. These approaches primarily involve an informal conversation between the respective Councillors or to request assistance in mediation from a mutually agreed upon Councillor.
These options may not always be feasible based on comfort level of the respective Councillors or they may present biased conditions for resolution. Therefore, an alternative informal and neutral dispute resolution process has been developed as an option should Councillors seek a professional, independent mediator to support them in their dispute resolution.
