Rocky View County has named Ron and Donna Hurt as the Master Farm Family Award recipients for 2019.

“We are honored to present the award to the Hurt family,” says Daniel Henn, Councillor and Agricultural Service Board Chair, at a luncheon during the annual County agricultural tour. “Ron and Donna operate Cross Rock Ranch Ltd., along with their three children and spouses, and have been a part of Rocky View County for over 75 years. They are all passionate advocates for the agricultural industry.”

Cross Rock Ranch Ltd. found its beginnings in 1942, when Ron’s grandparents moved to the Crossfield area. Today, their business includes both farming and cattle operations. The Hurts model efficiency with the use of computer programs for their operations, GPS, drones for field scouting and checking cattle, and electric fencing to monitor cattle feed consumption.

The family’s commitment to the local community is very evident through Ron and Donna’s involvement with various local boards and associations, including the  Crossfield-Madden 4-H beef club.

The Master Farm Family award has been presented annually since 1989, and recognizes Rocky View farm families who show excellence in the areas of community involvement, team farm management, technical farm practices, and agricultural business and industry involvement.
