Reminder: Sidewalk Snow Clearing Service Changes

Earlier this year, Rocky View County Council passed the Sidewalk Clearing Bylaw (C-8125-2021), which requires property owners/occupants to clear snow and ice from public sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours of a snowfall or ice event. This includes sidewalks in Langdon, Harmony, Watermark, Cochrane Lake, and East Balzac that were previously serviced by the County.

Under the bylaw, snow and ice must not be piled on County roads or public pathways. Please also keep fire hydrants and storm drains on and beside the property clear of snow, to ensure emergency access and to prevent flooding.

For business owners or operators, awnings, canopies, and marquees must also be kept free of snow.

Questions about this change can be directed to Transportation Services by emailing questions@rockyview.ca or by phoning 403-230-1401.

While owners/occupants are now responsible for clearing the public sidewalks and snow ridges/windrows next to their property, the County continues to plow County roads on a priority basis.

Thank you for your co-operation in keeping the sidewalks safe and accessible for all residents and pedestrians.
