County Council Appoints Interim County Manager

Rocky View County Council has announced the appointment of Rick McDonald to the position of interim County Manager, effective immediately.

Mr. McDonald brings nearly 40 years of extensive public and private sector leadership experience in various fields at senior and executive levels. He has provided interim Chief Administrative Officer services throughout his career, including time with Yellowhead County, Saddle Hills County, Westlock County, the Town of Grande Cache, the City of Cold Lake, the Town of Olds, and most recently as City Manager in Lloydminster. He holds certification in local government administration from the University of Alberta and has received designation as a Certified Management Consultant.

Mr. McDonald has sound knowledge and broad experience in working with aboriginal groups, Metis communities, health regions, community services, and municipal and senior government agencies, including environment, resource development, municipal affairs, agriculture, and more.

Mr. McDonald will serve while Council continues to recruit for the County Manager position on a permanent basis. That search is expected to take several months.

As in all Alberta municipalities, the Chief Administrative Officer (County Manager) serves as Council’s sole employee. Council provides direction to the position, and all staff report up through it.

The County Manager has been vacant since March 27, 2018. Kent Robinson has been acting in the role, and he will now return to his position as General Manager.
