County Emergency Response

Rocky View County’s Emergency Management Agency works with County departments, regional partners, non-governmental organizations, and neighbouring municipalities to prepare for emergency situations that may occur in the County.

When a large scale emergency occurs, the County will activate its Emergency Response Plan. The plan details the methods in which the County mobilizes its resources during a crisis. It also ensures all County organizations, emergency response services, and key agencies are fully aware of their respective roles and responsibilities.

Emergency Social Services is a pre-planned response designed to provide essential necessities for the immediate and continued well-being of persons affected by an emergency. Rocky View County provides short term services to preserve the physical and emotional well-being includes support and services to meet the basic essential needs of individuals, households and communities affected by emergencies.  

Emergency Reception Centres 

Reception Centers are locations designated by the Rocky View County Emergency management Team as a safe gathering place for people displaced from their homes because of an emergency or disaster.  

A Reception Center is typically open for up to 72-hours to provide for the immediate basic needs of evacuees until those services can transition to existing community resources.  

The County has identified 17 facilities as potential Reception Centers. Depending on the specific nature of the emergency, Reception Centre services could include: 

  • Information – accurate, up-to-date and relevant information 
  • Accomodation/Shelter services 
  • Registration and Inquiry 
  • Emotional Support 
  • Emergency Food, Clothing and Lodging Services 
  • Family Reunification 
  • First Aid 
  • Pet Services

It is your responsibility to make provisions for your pet(s) prior to entering the Emergency Reception Centre. If you need help in locating a kennel or making other arrangements for your pet, please see the centre manager.
