Commercial Auto Mall Application Tabled

An application for a land use re-designation that would allow the construction of an auto mall on Springbank Road in Rocky View County has been tabled by Council pending the completion of the Springbank Area Structure Plan.

Any land use re-designation application must respect the appropriate planning documents. For this application, those documents are the Calgary Metropolitan Region Board’s Interim Growth Plan, the Calgary/Rocky View County Intermunicipal Development Plan, and the Springbank Area Structure Plan.

The Springbank plan is currently under review, and Council believed that any investigation of the auto mall application would be premature at this time. Council will reconsider the land use re-designation once a revised Springbank Area Structure Plan has been approved. That process is expected to begin late this year.

The proposed auto mall is south of where Springbank Road meets the Old Banff Coach Road (Highway 563), just west of the County’s boundary with Calgary.
