Leaving flowers and mementos on a grave lot is a common way for family and friends to honour loved ones who have passed. Cemetery staff respect and understand the need that families have to leave these offerings.

In the interest of maintaining the appearance and safety of the cemetery for all our patrons, regulations have been put in place to provide direction on what can and cannot be left on grave lots.

Annually, beginning in May, staff start our annual clean up of all cemetery grounds, which includes mowing, and continues until some time in October.

Wreaths and Flowers (Fresh and Artificial)

Fresh flowers are welcome year round, and you can obtain water from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from the office if needed. Flowers that have dried will be removed through general clean up.

  • Flat Marker Grave Lots; Any Artificial flowers, or items placed on or around flat marker grave lots can/will be removed by the Cemetery staff if they could pose a hazard to the cemetery maintenance.
  • Upright Monument Grave Lots; Artificial flowers are permitted year round in secured vases on Upright Monument lots but must be contained within the cement ribbon. Please remember items can/will also be removed if they pose a hazard to the cemetery maintenance.

Artificial wreaths and flowers are allowed from the last cutting of the lawn in the fall until the first cutting in the spring, approximately October to May, provided they are properly maintained and do not pose a hazard to the cemetery maintenance.

Any items removed will be held for at least 14 days before being disposed of. For more information on permitted items and time frames please contact the cemetery administration office.

The Cemetery is not responsible for the loss of or damage to any marker, flower holder, or any portable object placed on any lots.

Vases and Flower Stands

Vases and flower stands not properly cared for and not filled with plants by October 1 may be removed from the lot and any stand, holder, vase, or other receptacle for flowers that is unsightly or unsuitable may be prohibited or removed by the Cemetery staff.

Trees, Shrubs, and Flower Beds

Planting of any trees, shrubs, or flowers is strictly prohibited by anyone other than Cemetery staff and if found will be removed by the Cemetery staff.

We have a variety of Trees, shrubs and flowering bushes that can be purchased through our memorial program and planted in various locations around the County’s parks and Cemeteries. Please contact the Cemetery Administration Office for more details and pricing.

Perpetual Care

Cemeteries are forever and our goal is to provide a high level of maintenance and care for generations to come. Upon the purchase of a lot, a portion of that sale is put into a Perpetual Care Trust Fund. Perpetual Care is a one-time fee charged per grave as required under the Alberta Cemeteries Act. The funds are collected and held in trust to be used towards the care and maintenance of the entire cemetery in perpetuity, long after the cemetery has reached its burial capacity.

Some of the maintenance responsibilities that are ongoing include cutting the grass, reseeding as required, grading, re-leveling when necessary and the overall general landscaping and care of the cemetery.
